The DSM-750 is an Extender for Windows Media Center that allows you to stream media content from a Windows Vista Premium or Ultimate OS-based PC to a High-Definition TV1 (HDTV) or Standard-Definition TV (SDTV). Windows Media Center delivers a breathtaking visual experience to your TV and allows easy browsing of your music, photo, and video collection with its intuitive navigation menu. Additionally, Windows Media Center allows you to access and enjoy a large and growing catalog of online entertainment, sports, and news content—all from the comfort of your living room.

The DSM-750 also includes a MediaLounge Media Player mode, which allows a Windows® XP OS-based PC to stream music, photos, and videos. This mode also enables streaming of music, photos, and videos stored on a Networked Attached Storage2 or USB Flash Drive3.

If your Windows Vista Premium or Ultimate OS-based PC has an integrated TV tuner, you can watch live TV4 or record a TV program with Windows Media Center, which features an Electronic Programming Guide that provides schedules for both subscription-based cable/satellite and terrestrial (over-the-air) programming. You can even pause or rewind live TV.

The DSM-750 supports HD video resolutions of up to 1080 so you can enjoy life-like picture quality on your 1080p-capable HDTV. To allow steady streaming of HD content over a wireless network, the DSM-750 utilizes draft 802.11n technology, which provides faster speeds and farther reception compared to 802.11g5. Since a majority of wireless devices use the 2.4GHz band, the DSM-750 also utilizes MediaBand technology, which provides the option of using the 5GHz6 band to help minimize interference with common wireless devices, thus improving streaming performance.

The DSM-750 supports HD video in either Windows Media Video 9 or MPEG-2/47 format. Enjoy videos with resolutions of up to 1080p for life-like picture quality from your HDTV. The DSM-750 includes both HDMI and Component Video outputs, providing flexible connectivity to your HDTV (HDMI and Component Video cables sold separately). It also works with standard definition televisions with S-Video or Composite Video inputs (Composite Video cables included).

The D-Link MediaLounge DSM-750 offers the best of both worlds since it can be used as an Extender for Windows Media Center or a Wireless HD Media Player using MediaLounge. Whichever mode you choose, you will be able to enjoy your digital media content on your big screen TV.

Media extenders have had kind of a rough year so far, but we still want a way to get all of our PCs’ media content—photos, videos, and audio—out to the home theater. (TV channels would be great, too, but it’s still too hard to get premium channels in HD...

Its tough to enjoy movies, TV shows, or even music perched uncomfortably in front of a desktop computer. Its much more comfortable to take in your media from, say, the den or living room sofa. Thats where media extenders come in. These devices let...
Good Wireless HD video streaming. 802.11n and 5GHz support. Full complement of outputs, including HDMI. Windows Media Center Extender mode for use with Vista. Silent operation.
Bad Expensive. Requires Vista PC to take advantage of all features (though it works, in a reduced capacity, with Windows XP). No Mac or Linux support.
Bottom line The D-Link DSM-750 is a capable, wireless HD media extender. But it costs nearly as much as the Xbox 360, which does much more...

Go ahead and bash Windows Vista (its fun!), but dont knock its sweet, sweet Media Center app. Bundled with Vista Home Premium and Ultimate, MC serves up tunes, photos, videos, DVDs, and, if you BYO tuner, DVR-style TV. Just one problem: Who wants to...
Good Cinchy setup. Streams content from PCs and NAS drives. Supports live TV viewing, recording and timeshifting, provided your PC has a tuner. Frontmounted USB port lets you play content from flash drives.
Bad Video tops out at 1080i. Menus look a bit muddy. No volume controls on the extender remote. Cant play DVDs. Wireless streaming demands highend DraftN router. Xbox 360 works equally well and plays games and DVDs to boot.
